The award is presented during the CPS Annual Conference.
Dr. James Irvine has been a family physician, now a public health and preventative medicine physician in Saskatchewan for 40 years. Dr Irvine became involved with the CPS through the First Nations, Inuit and Métis committee’s community visit with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band and Mamawetan Health Authority in 2000, and he became a member of the committee the following year. He was a member until 2021, helping to write many CPS statements over the years – most recently, the Preventing symptomatic vitamin D deficiency and rickets among Indigenous infants and children in Canada statement published in March 2022. Dr. Irvine was also a member of several planning committees for IMICH between 2005 and 2013, and is currently a member of the Autism Spectrum Disorder Guidelines Task Force. While Dr. Irvine has retired as a clinician, he will continue to work in public health on various national and provincial boards.
Nominations will be held for two consecutive years but must be formally resubmitted following the two year period to be reconsidered. The Membership Subcommittee reserves the right to limit the number of honorary memberships granted each year.
Current voting members of the CPS Board of Directors and Membership Subcommittee members are not eligible.
